It's been pounded into you since you were a little girl: your wedding day is your special day. Therefore you should get everything that you want, and everyone should jump to meet your every whim, right? Well, not necessarily. Though the wedding is your celebration, you're asking all of your relatives and friends to come from their Trinity Park lofts to celebrate with you. You want your guests to feel comfortable and have fun too, so you need to think of their needs as well. Here are some things to think about:

Travel Distance

If you're set on having your wedding somewhere exotic and far away, like Tahiti or Australia, be aware that some of your relatives and friends will not be able to attend. This may be because of difficulties with traveling (fear of flying, mobility problems, etc.) or because of budget constraints. Many people consider it hurtful and insulting if they are asked to travel a distance from their Yorkville condos that they cannot manage. You're basically guilting them into overreaching themselves or telling them you don't need them at your wedding.

Accommodations

Even if you're just traveling to the nice little town outside the city where you grew up, you still have to think about whether there will be enough hotel space to accommodate your guests. You don't want them to travel from their luxury condos in downtown Toronto only to find that there's no room. Therefore even if you're having an in-town wedding, you should still arrange a group rate and block off space at a hotel for your out of town guests. The accommodations should be functional but not too expensive to avoid putting your guests out of pocket too much.

Clothing and Gifts

Your bridesmaids will have to buy their own dresses, shoes, and accessories, as will the male members of your wedding party. Keep this in mind when you're choosing the dresses and try not to pick something that costs more than a piece of Markham real estate, especially if you know one of them is not well off. Even your regular guests will have to get formal wear and buy wedding gifts, so register for a large number of low to medium priced objects as well as a few larger ones to give them a some choice.

Food and Accessibility

You want everyone to have fun and be able to attend, so if you know any of your guests have special needs, you should anticipate and accommodate them. If your uncle is a wheelchair-bound designer of one storey house plans, make sure the church and reception hall have a ramp or elevator. If your cousin is allergic to eggs, have an egg-free dinner option available for her.
